Copied from another site that I am on, so some things might not make sense.......
Hi guys,

So as some of you know. I bought my girlfriend a Ford Anglia last year november.

It still had the original motor and gearbox. Car needs some tlc but we will get there.

In the meantime me and her brother had tried our skills at doing a motor swop! Let me tell you, if you have never done this yourself it is a real process! Its all very easy but we took so long doing it all because i wanted to ensure that it is all 100%!

Ok the details:
Ford Anglia

The motor I bought is from a Capri 1600gt. I bought the motor and gearbox from Arnold Lambert. Let me just say, Arnold you are a legend! Youve been super helpfull and I cant thank you enough! Now back to the swop!

Next is the stock motor still in the engine bay:

Busy taking it out:

Now this is our very own version of a South African CRATE-STYLE motor! Hope you like!

New gearbox: 4 speed, but with syncro, unlike the old box:

Swopping out the pick-up because with the new sump:

Just some fresh paint on the motor. My girlfriend chose the colour sheme!

Then its all fitted. She calls the Smurness, so we surprised her with this:

And here is the motor back in:

The propshaft has been shortend, picking it up today.

Exhaust will get done tomorrow and last it to sort out a throttle linkage for the new motor...

I will be picking up a set of mini lites (13") soon.

Hope you guys approve of the build?

What a mission the past few weeks have been!

Decided that the Anglia needs a upgrade on the brakes, seeing that the stock drum brakes doesnt stop the car.

Got a front suspention off a MK2 Cortina, very good condition. But holy cr@p! What a mission to put it in!

Now please take into consideration that this is the first car project I have been attempting to do myself. That includes the little amount of tools I have!

Anyway, got the struts in, nice perfect fit. I did need to cut a bit off the hat so that it will fit into the Anglia chassis. Arm running from the bottom from the strut to the cross member, also a perfect fit.

Brake lines where just swoped around, but got some new flex sections pipes made anyway.

Stock steering arms used, obviously I just adjusted them a little as the anglia steering arms is a bit shorter. I might just install the cortina ones.

Now for the part that is giving me a headache:
The stock swaybar fits, however when you tighten it at the end it pulls the front wheels against the front of the car's wheel arche. The cortina swaybar has allot shorter threaded area on the ends so that would work perfect.

But I cannot attach the Cortina one to stock mounting spots as its thicker than the stock Anglia one and it doesnt fit into the cradles. :x

So now Im trying to make that work! It just never ends!

In the meantime I have purchased some mini lites from GUNTER...thank Gunter for the good price! [smilie=666.gif]

Looks absolutly hot on the Anglia!

Will add some pictures of it on the car soon.

Wow, long time no update.

Eventually I have got the MK2 Cortina front struts fitted.

So what have I used and done:

MK2 Cortina struts
Anglia swayarm
Anglia lower contol arms
I had to take of the Cortina steering "knuckle" off the Cortina strut and install the Anglia ones to the cortina strut.

Reason behind this: if you use the cortina lower control arm, the anglia swayarm doesnt fit, the wheels are sitting to wide out the body also, and because of the swayarm not fitting correctly the caster is completely off and the front wheels rub against the wheel arch when the shock is compressed.

This has actually been a proper bolt on conversion! _hap

Took some time to swop all the right parts around.

So you use the stock andglia steering, lower control arms with the stock anglia steering knuckle attached to it and also the stock sway arm.

The only part you swop out is the strut....

Pics will follow soon.

Next step is to bleed the brakes and test the new brake discs out.

Then the car will go to Arnold as the gearbox has a very nasty whine on it.

Ok, so I have recieved the car back now with the new gearbox. However its one of those old non-syncro first gear (4 speed) ones! And they suck!

So I will need to look for another one. My GF keeps nagging me for a auto gearbox but there is two problems with that....

1. Trans tunnel is very tiny, doubt any auto box will fit!
2. Dont think there are any modern transmisions that will fit to the engine and old auto boxes I pressume are just crap!

Any ideas guys?

PS. I takes allot out of me working on a FORD! Seeing that Im a full blown Datsun man!

My dad raced at Klein plasie, Paarl and Goodwood with his Datsuns (SSS, Stanza, Bluebird....) so I will always love those cars!

Look for a V4 Corsair gearbox, those things are tough as nails. All you have to do is bolt the 1600 bellhousing onto it and it fits.

I think you actually got Anglia's with auto boxes, but they had larger tunnels, so unless you also want to cut out and weld in a new tunnel, forget about it.

That's definitely not a GT manifold you got with that motor, the Capri GT had branch manifolds on right out of the factory. That's an ordinary exhaust manifold that came off the run of the mill Escourts. You should look out for a Escourt Sport manifold, also cast iron, but flows much better and is kind of 4-2-1 and has two exit holes, gives much better midrange torque.

Thanks Boksie, I will look into that.

Yes, the manifold is not from the original motor, that's the best I could find at the time.

Car still needs to be lowered. Handeling has improved so much since I've installed the cortina struts.

Brakes are working ok, but I will be replacing the discs and pads, it still has the discs and pads on that was on the original cortina.

It needs some body work so I might just spend my holiday end of june stripping the car complete, do a respray and restore the car properly.

Up untill now I have only been fixing small problems and its never ending. Its time to take it apart and go over it all by nut and bolt.

Hahaha! A 1UZ would be awesome, but it so would not happen!

I want to try and keep the Anglia as period as possible, that's why I put on the mini lites and not some other nasty mags.

It complimants the car perfectly.

It does, my dad also loves those Anglias.

He used to race one with a 1760cc motor in it(Volvo B18 pistons and Nissan crank among other things), we used to call it the Coke Anglia, as it had a paint job very similar to the Coca Cola sign. The compression was so high(no idea what it was, was to small to care then) that the starters wouldn't last, they'd start the motor like 4 or 5 times and it'd simply seize up, that's if it even turned it over in the first place. They ended up simply push starting the thing every time with someone sitting the boot, otherwise the rear wheels would just drag along...

He's said many times he'd like to get one and build it an old style motor with all his goodies in, but with low compression and have me turbo charge it...

Actually the guy from Redline engineering had a black one there with a turbo Kent in, but it used one sidedraught in draw through config.
