I'm getting really tired of this damn bench seat in my 1400. This week I drove around in the bakkie and had to go from Pta to Krugersdorp, that was really heavy on my back and I think a change is needed. I have to admit that it is nice to have a bench, because my 7 year old still fits in nicely when it's him, mommy and me. This isn't something that happens often, but it is nice to have the option of three in the cab. I will not have him or any other member of my family on the back anywhere but on a plot or farm.

So what do you guys think (or rather know) will work in the bakkie. My options that I know is -

Have the seat reconditioned and reupholstered so that it give decent support again. (if even possible, easy to promise, but possibly not so easy to deliver???)

Buy a used bench seat with less wear than the one I have in currently.

Install two seats and never have my son as third passenger inside ever again. Maybe we could use a pillow or three and have him sit between the seats on the pillows. I'm not sure if this is what I want to do, he is also a firm believer in wearing seat belts, because his mother always says that the car doesn't start when the seat belts aren't on. So he might struggle with that option.

So basically my first choice is to have a bench seat with good support, but I don't know what those seats were like when new, so it's very hard for me to decide. I weigh in at just under 110kg so I'm not sure whether this is the right option and I'm hoping you guys can shed some light on this for me.

If the only real solution is to go with two separate seats, which ones work with minimum effort and mods. Do the standard Champ seats offer better support, or is it better to go with some other bucket seats?

I do think that the two seats would be nice, and also offer other advantages, but I'll wait to hear your opinions.

Thanks in advance gents.

You can try to reupholster the bench, but I remember my bench to be uncomfortable aswell and my bakkie had 40 000 km on when I got it. you can try and fit Citi Golf seats and still bring the middle seat belt through the middle and let him sit on a piece of high density foam you cut to fit precisely in the middle, between the two seats at the right hight of the two seats.

Ah Tiaan, the best of both worlds, hehehe

Thanks for that great idea, I think that's going to be perfect, just not too sure about the Citi seats, maybe the Velociti ones (if I can find them) or some nice comfy, supportive leather ones :) from a GTi or Audi

Will check some gumtree and scrapyards.

If you have any ideas about which seat will fit with the least amount of mods, or the easiest to do, don't hesitate to let me know, please.

I heard a rumour that mazda 323 fwd seats fit just by bending the front mounting tabs backwards. if this is indeed true, surely the bantam bench can't be far off

@bmwmaniac - If that is true, it would make things really simple to do. The way I like it :) I'll see if I can get to some scrap yards this week. Maybe that could be the answer.

BenSi - I like those Jazz seats, they would go well my bakkie's colour I think. If we could negotiate a price, the transport cost would surely be a bit from Kimberly to Pretoria? The Etios seats have a cheap look to them, makes me think of Escourt seats.
