Hi Guys iv just got my hand on a 1974 Valiant Rebel that I'm restoring at the moment. Car needs some work, has a straight 6 engine and still runs.

Paint, Rally yellow with black racing stripes, with black leather on the inside.
Engine, i want to keep the same straight 6, but I'm leaning toward a v8..... it has steering shift so i think that might be a big job.

any good advice would be much appreciated..... :D :thumb:

Just imagine a V8 Chevy or Ford motor in there...
The 6 liter V8 Lumina motor.

hey Tiaan, yes i would love that, tho a lumina engine is to costly, id rather find the old chevy or fords engine to fit there. ima put pen to paper and see weather its costly to redo this 4.0 straight 6 or buy a v8 from Thundersport ....Hows the lexus v8 , and would it be a mission to change the gearbox from steering shift to auto? ...... hmmmmm I'm starting the body this weekend swell

The Lexus V8 is a nice engine. You get a auto gearbox management from Spitronics with a auto shifter from them. Or cut a hole in the floor and go manual.
The Toyota 1uz is very cheap for a V8.

It depends if you want to keep it period correct or not, but with a little work maybe converting the old engine in there already to fuel injection and possibly charging it later on it'll still run like a bomb.

Look into it if the Ford Falcon or Fairmont head will fit on this block.
It's also a 4 liter 6 cylinder and it's FI.

It's a Chrysler engine, so it's highly unlikely that a Ford cylinder head will fit on it.

He's leaning towards keeping it period correct with a bit of modernisation as you can see. Fitting a Ford or any other motor in there won't fulfill that goal.

Ok. Then he can do the Spitronics fuel injection Weber convertion.
They have a kit where you put two injectors in the Weber.
Or modify the std intake mani to fit injectors in the runners and mount a throttle body where the carb was.

If you want to keep it carb, a 38 Weber will do the trick.

I can imagine this car in black with 17" mags, or maybe 19".

If it was my car, I would put a Chevy V8 in it with a dual exhaust system. a exhaust on each side.
Paint it black with 19" polished mags and black leather interior.

Thats just me, almost like the car of Dean in the series Supernatural.
