Hi all, how someone can please help me with a major issue i;m having with my grandma's bakkie.
It's a Nissan 1400 ( 2007 model).

It starts perfectly, drives fine but when you get to a stop or halt the bakkie switches off.

Things replaced on vehicle is as follows;
Carb, fuel pump, coil, resistor block, points, condenser, timing is perfect.

Can't think of what it could be.

Is there anyone who could assist with this please???

you might have a bit of a short- cct in your brake lights, sounds like as soon as you hit the brakes, the voltage drop is too much, so the ignition suffers and from that the engine just dies.

while the car is idling... just step on the brake pedal and see if that actually also makes the engine go dead.

Common fault on these are the ballast resistor between the ignition switch and the coil. When you crank the engine the ignition bypasses it and supplies full 12v to the coil, when it fires up and you let go of the ignition the resistor kicks in and the coil only get's 9V. This is to spare the points and help them last longer. Sometimes they go bad and cause the voltage drop to be to much when as Rotor discribes you press on the brakes. They tend to only show these signs when the car has run for a while as they get hot.

It's a little square white ceramic block usually on the firewall. Just take a piece of wire and bypass it for a test. Start the car and drive it and see if it still happens. If not then the resistor is bad and you should get a new one. Otherwise there's a short somewhere as Rotor suggests and you need to look further.

He said he changed the resistor block.
I also think it's a short or wire with the plastic around it damaged inside of the dizzy.

Does it sound like you turn the ignition of and there is no power to the coil or does it start miss fire and and then stop?

If it starts miss fire and so on and then stop it can also be a cracked intake mani or a cracked port between the intake and exhaust port.
As the engine heats up the crack pulls open and start sucking exhaust gass into the intake, had a golf head that did that.
My 1400 again had a cracked intake mani on piston 4 and ran too lean so didn't want to idle at low rpm.

But before you start searching for mechanical faults, plug the brake lights out by the switch on the brake and try again.
Also did you check the idle valve on the carb if it gets 12v when idling?
It's the silver thing that screws into the carb with a wire on.
That is the main cause for that to happen on the 1400's

LOL.
