Let my new project commence

Im restoring this XR3i (for marque cars in historic series)that I got as "part of the deal" when selling the Corolla

At this point I'm just scouting for the original parts(which is actually fun :lol: )

As it stands now

the door handles and boot lid was shaved (which looked good,but not legal)

so I sourced some door handles and lock set.Luckily the guy that shaved the doors didn't do a proper job,so it was easy to put handles back

Motor is stripped

Had the crank machined and cyl head recond.got new cam (standard :cry: )
and sent crank,rods,flywheel etc. for balancing

If you are not going to have the cam cut, try and find one from a 1400 Bantam, they have a little more lift and the degrees are slightly different, gives a bit more torque.

And of course if you want anything more serious, you should contact Steve Wyndham Racing, they do the only proper cams for these engines, the others chew up the lifters in no time.

Ya, they are the same, just mentioned the bakkies, because they were a little more common.

What I was referring to is when you have a standard cam from one of those motors cut, the lobes become to sharp and the ramp angles to extreme and then they moer the hydraulic lifters in their chops very quickly.

The reason they chew up the cam as you describe is because of worn hydraulic lifters that don't keep the clearances in check. Replace all the lifters with new ones if you can.

Of course, those motors are known to respond very well to boosting... :lol:

Just a little update

I could not find original wheels or FI system

So bought some rough TSW Titan 14" they are allowed in historic series as they are period correct







and I'm in the process of modding the original manifold to accept normal injectors so I can use dictator

Looks good, I like those Escourts!!! I had a 1.3 GL as my first car, also had the 1.3 CVH motor, but we fit a 1.6 carb and the blue cam from the Bakkie engine with some gasflowing and a set of crappy branches I scrounged out of someones shit pile, it went like the clappers for what it was.

Soooo...... I was busy the last two weeks

Finished the body work on the Escort



Assembled the motor,fitted a dictator, etc. Just got it running nice today





and then..........

the unimaginable happened,Fucking cheap piece of shit fuel pipe burst




luckily its not as bad as it looks

so now were back to square one,motor is coming out again
-replace all melted parts
-repaint whole car-maybe red?
-GET PROPER GOOD YEAR HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINE HOSE
