hi guys new to the forum, but joined purely cause this is one of the few forums that is not shy to share the wealth of information, not like some forums out there, where the guys are scared that if they share there info, then you will have the same or better car than there.

That said, like the heading ses, i have been toying with the idea(excuse the pun) of dropping a 1uzfe into my corolla. i have been put off it but after chatting to Wesley (worx) it seems this is my choice.

what i do need is as much input as possible.

suspension upgrades and possible handling issues if possible.
drivetrain information (going manual)
i know the motor is solid from research on overseas forums.
i can think of every thing as i am in the early stages of planning and hence i need your advise.

the car i not going to be a track car but may take it on there a few times, its going to be a daily and more for show and shine.

reading rotor post, but please guys feel free to part with your thoughts and experience/info.

:help:

i have added a pic of my car for all the guys that don't visit the intro section

I'd imagine the 1UZFE would be a bit heavier than the old motor, so you'll probably have to either beef up your front springs, or get some coil overs with the right rating of springs that'll handle it and not make the car feel like a ball of snot.

On the drivetrain I think Rotor's page is the first stop as far as a conversion for the bellhousing on a 21R goes. His solution is very elegant and effective. I think he's put the drawings up anyway, so you could even do it yourself probably.

Would love to see this go through, I can think of a few members on this forum that'll be very jealous of your ke70...

The suspension will def be a problem, that's why you guys are here to help with all your contacts. Any idea who makes coilovers and what the cost for the front.

I sourced a 1.3 cross member and steering shaft, just need to buy a new steering rack. mine has a steering box :)puke.

also bought an M75 DIFF, but might not use it. as i was advised ford 9" has more parts available.

Now i have been phoneing around for motors and they all around the same price(price fixing i tell you), any suggestions on good suppliers in JHB and also what to look for when buying one of these import motors.

i can say the conversion will happen even if its is not over night. just finished read rotors thread. the man seems blessed with talent, will def call on him for help, wont be doing turbo, found a company that makes supercharger kits for the 1uz(an option) but def adding some laughing gas. :laughinghard:

I heard that they use the golf strut for the front, this allow for you to use bigger disks too. Can anyone confirm this?

I wonder yeah

I'm sure i replied to this man's thread already, or was it his intro?
Supac i was at Mosque u aap!

Vino, boet, There is NOTHING I would love to see more in this world than a locally built 1uzfe in a ke70 :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I'd say go for it, there's LOTS of info on it, it has been done (just google LLoyd Smith 1uz) his build thread is on the Silvia forum...
One thing u HAVE to do is seam weld the car's body to help t cope with the 1uz's power,
21R is strong enuff gbox, the M75 is strong enuff and dont let anyone tell u different.
As for the hilux calipers, believe me, that weight is hugely accounted for with 8 cylinders bru!!! don't stress about it. Also it share's a brake pad with the 200sx S14 and another car, so pad's are inexpensive, I last i got a set for sumone, Ferodo platinums are about R450 (for front only)and EBC yellow's were about R1000 (front only).

Once u have the car all sorted we talk about boosting it later neh ;)

U just made my WEEKEND BAYBAY!!!!

now i gotto walk around all weekend with this smirk

EDIT, here's his build thread, notice, his car WAS the same colour as your before the build

With regards to the brakes, what I did was source a set of golf GTI callipers and Hyundai accent disks, made up a bracket, fitted it to the rear after removing the drum setup and whaaalaaaah!!! Did'nt have a days problem with brakes since then. In fact, I drove one of my buds cars with same setup as mine, only difference was that he still had the standard braking system, I nearly kakked in my pants when I tried to stop, hold, maybe I did :thumb:

@nadeeme - thanks bud for the info, i was told u a sucker for the 1uz. i have followed and read smiths build and Brandon build, brandon used a six speed supra manual box if i remember correctly. will be doing seam welding on the body.

if i do use the hilux calipers, what discs do i use ?

the ideas is to get the motor and box put the together and put in the car to get a mok up, so that what needs to be made like mounting, headers and that can get done, then everything comes out, card get totally stripped and we start from there, a ground up rebuild.

@3sgte i have read about the rear breaking system u suggesting but i might change pcd to 4/100 and get new hubs machined, as getting the correct offset in 4/114 i jhb seems to be the problem, this will allow me to bring the offset out so that any front wheel drive rim will fit, also i can chose the disc i want to fit and this will all be accommodated in the machining of the hub, but like i said "might"

right now i just wanna sit down make a list of what i need so i can start ticking it of one, by one. should get the motor in the next two week or so. just hard to get to an import shop as i work Monday to Saturday.

with regards to fueling i know i am going to need a surge tank any ideas on the size of the pump needed.

 Can you get any ratio you want for a M75?? At the moment you will pay more for a M75LS than a 9inchLS!! Upgrade options are endless, and contrary to popular belief the diff is not THAT much heavier,in either instance the diff has to be narrowed, this is much easier than looking wheels in a specific offset to compensate for diff length!! It was merely a suggestion and not an outright option,i did tell him the M75 is up to the task, the issue is finding a LS unit for a reasonable price, finding an expensive one is already an issue!!

Also for future upgrades......... like his plans to fit the SC,this will see the torque jump by leaps, combine that to a stock chassis and trim(weight) and all the low down torque,i dont see that M75 coping without throwing some money at it,and even then it will give trouble!!

With the 9inch he can buy different spools to accomodate thicker shafts if the problems becomes serious enough to warrant it,he could also chuck the nodular iron casing in favour of an aliminium one(more weight savings)I'm thinking long term when i talk like this, the money he spends on the M75 could buy him a stronger setup and would never need touching again!!

:thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

In my case it's financing the conversion that's stopping me right now

That's some good info (the dimensions u posted Vino) I remember posting that in one of rotor's threads when he got started on the 1uz. :thumb:

Brandon used the 6spd supra box yes.
As for the disks, that all depends on what wheels, ETC you gonna run. Dont stress about the disks now, u could source a set of blanks (with the required offset) later and just drill (PCD) accordingly :thumb:
